Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. Presentations, Contract Events, Teaching (K-Undergraduate+) Live Venue Performances, Specialty World Music (broad range), Multi-Genre Dance Accompaniment etc..
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Give me a try and weigh out the differences with others, hire me while I am accessible and I'll leave a smile on your face.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. I would wish to have a definite idea of my direction, just because there is so much and the field is so broad, it can be overwhelming of you do not have a coach or colleague to work with. Inside secret #1 = Find the best teachers available and LOVE them, show them you are not afraid to learn through hard work and perseverance.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Knowing what particular service you need for your event, party, occasion, etc., helps me to provide the best possible performance art experience for you.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I do my absolute best to be a cut above in providing the right tools for people whom are pursuing either live performance and/or have the strong desire to have their expressions heard. I also believe that people whom do what I do are in it together with me.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. Everything: My Colleagues are my classroom. I am surrounded by such richly brilliant and talented people. They elevate my consciousness and drive me to be a better and more dedicated artist. I am very fortunate to call my colleagues, students, teachers and personal coaches: friends. Bringing an audience something special they've rarely seen, or what they like is what makes us. So many factors, but overall I just LOVE IT!
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. How do you do that!? Answer: observe, rinse, repeat, observe, rinse, repeat etc.. Usually, I emphasize the importance of discipline, without it you fall apart and lose sight of the real reason you started with. Establish the understanding that students have a great deal to offer any teacher.
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. Too many to list, perhaps I can share these personally with whatever service you hire me for.
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. That there is pain involved on several levels and that if this (Fine Arts) is something that they are pursuing as a career, get ready to bleed, sweat, cry, triumph, progress, lose, win, etc..
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. I come from a family which is artistic. My great Auntie, Emilia Reyes sang for the Metropolitan Opera House in New York during the depression (around Caruso's time). Her sister, my departed Grand Mama, Aida Reyes (as well as all my family: My Mother Isbelia is still an AMAZING musician and songwriter as well as my Father Alejandro, whom has lived and grown up with some of the Jazz GIANTS from Puerto Rico) have pushed me to be a performing and fine artist since 5 years old, I am forever in debt to my family for this.
Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.
A. Amazing Afro-Beat set on 9/11/10 with our musicians' collective band: The Pink-hawks at the Meadowlark music club in Downtown Denver. Performed vocals, percussion, etc., and we delivered with a solid punch (even minus two of our members), correlated performances with my West African Drumming and Dance ensemble AFI (led by director Koffi Toudji)....this is a weekly thing!: Tomorrow 9/22 at CU Denver, (after my Japanese class).
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. I do, I have several music instructors and composition coaches, masters in their respective fields, Film and production partners which are all incredible (working from Hollywood to Denver). I work at a renowned dance conservatory and the youth there teach me a great deal in turn, and I am part of multiple working, performance projects which show no sign of slowing.
Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?
A. So many from software to techniques in: music, film, performance, etc....the technology is always changing our line of business.
Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.
A. Most recent: yesterday Location: Aztec Communion, the cost was mine and several other musical artists skills. The liturgy was 25 minutes total, but rewarding on EVERY level. Compensation was generous, which is always a blessing.
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
A. Self explanatory, depending on the event and or/ type of service requested this is the formula: Man hours+ Prep Time+ Delivery of Service = Pricing
Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?
A. Invest in tools of the trade and do your homework. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE whether its performing or writing, filming or acting, producing or directing, you MUST make an investment to do it with the proper tools, this includes finding shortcuts and bargains to do it. Start learning the cost curve early, otherwise you find yourself in a predicament where the ends cannot afford the means.
Q. Write your own question and answer it.
A. Veritas et firmitas? Ictus est meo spiro!! Non, scienta et potentia!!!
