FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing system isn't terribly complicated; I have a flat rate that covers everything I do; videography, web design, flash animation, photography, motion-graphics, etc. I bill at $100/hr, although I prefer to price things per project, and not directly hourly. I don't like to have one eye "on the meter", so to speak. I strongly prefer to consult with the client and agree on a set price, with very clear goals, expectations, and well-defined deliverables, before any work begins. I've found this method works best for me, and the vast majority of my clients-- this way, I'm better able to manage my time to keep the project within the determined budget, and my clients are rarely, if ever, presented an invoice that exceeds my original estimate. If I ever encounter situations where the project has grown out-of-scope and overages are unavoidable, I notify clients well in advance and consult with them before proceeding. I'll never spring a bill on someone without discussing it with them first, so that we can agree on a course to keep the project within the budget, or agree upon an expansion that we both find fair.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm constantly reading books, taking tutorials and experimenting in my off-time. You can almost always find me tinkering with some goofy piece of animation, struggling to learn a new technique, or lugging my camera equipment to test out a crazy idea. I LOVE what I do, and am admittedly a hopeless geek about it. I'm positively OBSESSED with visual media.
