Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Most high school counselors simply do not have the time or expertise to help students with college planning. Many parents agree that hiring a private college counselor is the best investment they ever made. A private college counselor can help with test prep, choosing colleges, essays and applications, and college counseling throughout the college admissions process.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. How long have you been working with students? How many colleges have you visited in the last few years? Are you a member of some professional organizations?

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. As the founder of College Direction in Denver, Colorado, I have always tried to make my services both affordable and effective. Paying more does not mean you get more.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I have always loved working with kids of all ages. I enjoy talking with them and helping them succeed academically and in their lives.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. College admissions has changed dramatically since many parents went to school. Parents can save themselves a lot of money by helping their students find schools that are a good fit.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I have degrees in education and counseling. I was a teacher and became more interested in preparing students for college. I began visiting colleges and taking courses in college planning and have now been involved in this line of work for more than twenty years.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I attend national conferences and get continuing education credits for the seminars I attend. I am also a member of five professional organizations that provide continuing education on a regular basis.
