FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For book editing projects, I charge by the word. For corporate/contract work, I charge by the hour or by the project.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I begin by editing a page or two on the house. That way, a new customer has a firsthand look at what I do and how I do it. I've met dozens of people over the years who've wasted money on untested, untried writers and editors. I tell my customers not to take someone's word for it -- if you're a good writer/editor, show, don't tell.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an undergrad degree in English, four years of graduate study in English, and many years of experience teaching at the University of Virginia and the University of Colorado, Boulder. I've taught writing at the Pentagon, for the U.S. Air Force, and for companies nationwide. Most importantly, I've worked as a professional writer/editor for 20 years.
