Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. I often work with people who have busy lives, are pulled in several directions, and they aren't enjoying themselves. They have created certain patterns that really aren't helping them. Often learning to slow down, take care of their bodies/health, and risking to truly be themselves around others are common themes.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Most coaches offer some introductory offer - take advantage of this. My offer is to give you 45-60 min. of my time, at no cost to you. During this consultation, I find out what you want to experience in life and what obstacles are in your way. Together we look at your options and choices. You get to experience my coaching style. It is not high pressure. You are the one who knows if the timing is right or if you want to move ahead in this direction.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. A Life Coach doesn't do the work for you, I can't 'fix' your situation. I truly believe all your answers come from within; you are much wiser about your life than I am. My intention is to help you find your voice and learn to listen and trust it.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. I would suggest that you go online and look at a variety of coach's websites. This will give you an idea of the various types of coaches out there and the range of fees.
Most people hire a coach when they know they are ready to work on or grow in some area of their lives. And, most use coaches when they have tried on their own and realized they didn't get the results they wanted.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. Our life unique life experiences make us who we are. My life journey as a parent, business owner, wife, and independent woman has given me experience learning life balance. I understand the struggles and challenges and I have know the peace finding balance brings.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. It's an honor to be invited to share another's life journey. I know the courage and commitment involved for an individual to make the choice to hire a coach. I know that coaching will help them make mental shifts, discover new options, gain trust in themselves, and will help them take steps that maybe they were unable to make on their own. I love seeing people grow, become more confident, and experience more joy and less stress in their lives.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. How can hiring a life coach help me? As your coach I listen without judgment - that's huge for most people. I am here to encourage you every step of the way. Together we celebrate your successes and find ways for you to overcome the obstacles in your life. I provide accountability, as many of us are more apt to take action when we've told others we would.
Having a coach can help you reach your goals quicker and with a lot less angst than trying to do it on your own. Too often many folks just don't have the support they need to thrive.
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. Each client is different and I have so many 'favorite' stories. Yet, there is a common thread - the thread is seeing clients begin to value themselves and their uniqueness more. They gain peace of mind and feel happier.
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. As your coach, everything shared with me is held in confidence. I live my life with integrity, which I think is very important as a coach; I am real. Creating a safe and trusting relationship is foundational; I want you to have a place where you can totally be yourself. I take a holistic approach to life and my coaching; we are complex beings and we can't simply compartmentalize each area of our lives, many areas are interconnected. I believe that people want to feel whole, therefore when working on one area we will look at how that's effecting other parts of your life as well.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. I have always loved working with people and helping them move forward in their lives. I began a Masters in counseling, but when I heard Debbie Ford (a well-known coach/author) speak about her role as a coach, I knew that was a better fit for me. I liked the focus on coaching, taking people where they are now and helping them get to where they want to be.
Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.
A. Recently I agreed to be part of the LEAP program at Johnson & Wales University. This program is designed to help students prepare for leadership in their communities. I donate my time to coach students. It's so exciting because this is such an important time in their lives and I feel like they will have such a head start when they graduate, in part, because of the coaching they received.
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. I am a member of the Denver Coach Federation and have served on the Board of Directors. Each month we have speakers who share their knowledge with us - sometimes it's coaching techniques/skills, sometimes I learn in depth about a specific coaching niche/practice, other times it's about social media/marketing. I join in on conference calls and am connected to two local universities.
Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.
A. A project that I enjoy is instructing at Colorado Free University. This school is designed for adults, is low-cost, and the course offerings are non-traditional. I currently teach 3 courses: Improv for Introverts: Improve your relationships through Improv, Vision Boards: A powerful tool for manifesting the future you desire, and Dating by Design. Each course is reasonably priced, most are $51 for a 3-4 hr. course.
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
A. My pricing is not complicated. I offer 3-6 sessions a month, (each session is between 45-60 min.). Clients who want to get a quick start may choose 5-6 sessions/mo. while those who have reached their goals and simply want to maintain may choose 3. The fees range from $250-$450/mo. I do offer a 15% discount for those who purchase 3 months at a time.
Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?
A. Coaching is a great profession. I'd encourage you to consider the various schools/training available. Pick a program that fits who you are. After you receive your certification, be sure to plug into an ICF or local coaching organization near you for support.
Q. Write your own question and answer it.
A. Does my coach need to live in the city that I do?
No. One of the great things about coaching is that 99% of my sessions are done over the phone (even if you did live in the same city). This means zero commute time for you. I've found that it also often makes it easier for clients to be more relaxed (since they are in an environment they choose). They often open up easier and feel less awkward sharing than they would if we were face-to-face.
