FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a firm believer in being a consumer of your craft so I watch a lot of films, tv, and videos to gather information and techniques. There are also come great resources out there like magazines, books, the indy mogul channel, and conferences demonstrating different techniques and equipment. Michael and I are both constantly consuming this stuff. I also travel to film festivals and mingle with my fellow filmmakers. There is often no better resource than your peers. Even when I was doing my undergrad, my teachers were all active in the industry and I learned more from them than any other source.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been making movies since I was in third grade. Of course, back then they were just silly home movies with my friends but they gradually grew in sophistication as we grew older but I never thought I could do this as a career. When I went to college I wanted to double major in film and marine biology but both majors were so intensive I had to choose one if I didn't want take seven years to complete my undergrad. I decided on marine biology but after a year I missed the creativity of film desperately and I decided to switch majors. I truly found my niche in film and enjoyed every minute of it even though I had to take on a heavy production load in order to complete the major and graduate on time. After studying all aspects of cinematic digital production in depth, I found my strength in directing. I also found that I was rather adept at editing and a decent cinematographer. In my ever constant pursuit of becoming a better filmmaker I am always looking to improve and hone my skills and hope to attend graduate school in the future. I joined Kurtz Video Services in 2012 to continue down that path and serve others with my acquired skills.
