Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Should you need breastfeeding support, the best place to look is www.ILCA.org. There new parents will see Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) that are close to their home. Look for FALC - Find a Lactation Consultant on the ILCA page!

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. The difference between an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant and a Certified Lactation Counselor http://www.in.gov/isdh/17305.htm

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. What are your credentials? They should always be IBCLC. Sometimes an IBCLC is also a registered nurse, a la leche leader, a doula, a nurse practitioner or a doctor

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I use holistic and alternative treatments as often as I can. I am also very good at spotting oral problems in baby such as tongue tie, that often leads to mom have pain when breastfeeding and low milk supply

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Helping moms succeed!

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I started as a volunteer in the nursery at a local hospital. I had experience breastfeeding 3 children and wanted to offer help to other mothers. From there I went onto become a registered nurse, earn my BS in Maternal Child Health/Human Lactation, have 2 more children and become IBCLC!

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. One mom called me in tears because she started off breastfeeding and then had to be hospitalized. Her supply dramatically decreased and baby was taking formula and no longer breastfeeding. I recognized a tongue tie in baby and signs of reflux. I referred her to her pediatrician for further evaluation and treatment. Baby's tongue tie was release, baby was treated for reflux and is now breastfeeding 100%!

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. Compassion for struggling breastfeeding mothers, availability with home visits within 24 hours of referral, email and phone availability mornings, daytime and evenings!

Testimonials

I highly recommend Cradlehold! I first consulted with Dana when my daughter was 6 weeks old and she was experiencing abdominal discomfort after nursing. After hearing a short list of symptoms, Dana made several recommendations (new breastfeeding positions, etc) and properly diagnosed the problem. Consequently, my daughter, husband, and I got our first good night's sleep in weeks! My daughter is now 19 months old and still breastfeeding, and Dana has advised me recently, as well. Dana is obviously committed to helping new moms succeed at breastfeeding, and I would recommend her to any of my friends.
