Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. I specialize in finish carpentry. complex crown moldings and dental work, arch flouted doorways, custom built in cabinets, custom fit doors, any type of moldings, casings. and lately I've been doing allot of exterior mold and rot repair on older houses. including siding, crown moldings, and a front porch with pillars that was just short of falling down.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Make sure they have all their licences and insurance.

Also if they are getting payed by the hour and your not going to buy the materials yourself, make sure they agree to show you all the receipts for the materials.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. For carpentry there are three qualities you pay for, from which you can pick any mix of two that fits your preference. With no exceptions.

Speed, Quality, Price..

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I take pride in my work. The knowledge and skills I have, is shown in my work.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I like the detail and complexity finish carpentry has to offer. whether its as complex as a custom hidden door, or simple as crown moldings, finish carpentry can tailor your home from a typical cookie cut home, into your dream home.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Can I/or do I know how to do "it"?--- Even if I have never done "it" before, you can rest assured the project will be completed properly and with the same quality and craftsmanship as all of my work.

How much do I charge? ---$40-$45 an hour for myself or $60-$70 an hour Total for myself and my helper, all based on the job. If one prefers an estimate and proposal for the entire job it can be done.

How long will it take?--- I would have to know the details of the job to give an estimate; However, I can give a more accurate completetion date once I start a job. Once started, that job is my top priority until I finish.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I started working finish carpentry with a good friend. As I got better at it I started to enjoy the challenge and detailed work, finish carpentry has to offer.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I was recently call upon to finish the third floor attic of an old house in west Hartford. the home owner asked 1st if it could be done, and 2nd if the two support pillars in the middle of the room could be removed.

Long story short, it was in desperate need of being re-supported. So I replaced the two supports with LVL beams which greatly strengthened the ceiling and roof and allowed for the two Supports to be removed. And now the whole floor is finished and trimmed, and even has a hidden door entrance I made that looks like a built in book shelf, as access to the new third floor getaway.
