Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Do your research, and don't be afraid to ask pointed questions such as:

1) Will my website be optimized for Search Engines? How do you do that (they should mention META tags, Keyword friendly URLs, Back-links, etc).

2) Will my website work on Mobile Devices?
By 2015, more than 50% of the population will be using their smartphones and tablets as their primary method to view the internet. If your website has problems on these devices, that could limit your marketing reach and lose you customers.

3) Can I maintain the website myself?
A lot of web services now provides an easy to use Content Management System (CMS) that allows novice users to maintain their own websites.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. On Search Engine Optimization:

SEO is not rocket science, its all about providing good content, and labeling it correctly for the search engines to index it correctly.

"Keywords" are the words that you want to rank high in the Search Engines for. So for your pages and blog posts - you want to use these keywords in the text of the page. In addition, you want to make sure your META title tag and description are filled out properly and use those same keywords to identify the page.

Once you get that going - its paying attention to your sites analytics and seeing if your getting the traffic for those keywords. If not - then you should reevaluate your keywords and possibly your overall strategy to get the right formula.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We take a lot of pride in our work - and want to make each website that we work on be the best it can be. We understand that the work we do on your site is a direct reflection on our business and our skills.

With that in mind we not only focus on the "look and feel" of your site, but we focus in on your site's business and marketing goals by factoring in Search Engine Optimization, Site usability, Mobile Device Friendliness, Social Media integration, and future site maintenance as part of our services so that you get a holistic approach to your web presence, instead of just one small piece of the puzzle.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Web Design/Web Marketing is a field that keeps evolving and keeps you on your toes. The field has changed so much over the past couple of years where its not only about having a good website - its about integrating that website with Social Media, getting a mobile web presence, and preparing for the next "big thing" that is right around the corner.

I love my job because it never gets old. There is always some new trend, tool, or marketing opportunity out there that keeps me on my toes. My customers rely on my knowledge and understanding of these new trends and tools to help them maximize their digital/web marketing reach.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I started my career as a Software Engineer, and while that career was rewarding and I was given the opportunity to work alongside some of the best engineers in the world, personally I wanted to do something a bit more creative and artistic.

I went back to school to earn my masters degree in the mid 2000s, and soon began to change career paths and become a web developer/designer - using my skills as a Software Engineer to help me along the way. As I advanced further in my new career, I became more and more interested in digital/web marketing and soon added Social Media, Search Engine Optimization, and overall web marketing strategy to my skill set and services.

After working for some of the best companies in Massachusetts, including Raytheon, Harvard Apparatus, Assumption College, and Hanover Insurance - I decided to go out on my own and start Massachusetts Web Designs, as a B2B company dedicated to helping other businesses maximize their web presence and market reach.
