Mary Jo Carter helped me transform my average family room into room that has style and personality. I have received many compliments from friends who have visited my home. I really appreciated how she took my needs and preferences into consideration as we worked together to develop a plan for the room. She really listened to what I had to say regarding my ideas for the room while she guided me through the process of choosing colors, accessories etc. he is a very talented decorator and a joy to work with.

Maryjo pays attention to what YOU like, and how YOU live, not what she likes, or how she lives. Her forte is that she understands the human condition! Not all of us are organized, some of us have kids, the house may not look perfect all of the time, but yet, we should love where we come home to. She understands that couples often disagree on decorating! She works with your budget, and helps you to figure out what needs to be done, in what order.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I was drawing floor plans when I was just a child. My last career before decorating homes was selling them. I gained experience in new construction and learned what was behind the walls. We bought older homes, fixed them up, and we'd move again to another. I began getting calls from people who needed help getting their houses ready to market and heard that I helped so and so choose paint colors, rearranged their house for better flow, knew contractors etc. These visits became the highlight of my work. Decorating and being a willing helper has always been in my life in a very big way. I was aways a decorator first and my career finally evolved to fit my passion.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Trust is the key to any good relationship. It is also very important that you can communicate with each other and determine if you are decorating on the same planet. Ask questions. Know what they can do for you, what to expect, and when to expect it. It is also good to know whether they are a member of any trade group. I am a memeber of the Interior Design Society or IDS.
