Introduction: Originally from New York, Marita grew up in Washington State and has found a perfect happy medium living in the DC area for the past eight years. She has a Bachelor's in History from Western Washington University and is currently finishing up a degree in Biology at the University of the District of Columbia. It's been a journey for her, with plenty of ups and downs, however, she is excited to finally be applying to medical school next summer.
While competing in Amateur Boxing and holding aspirations of becoming a physician, Marita decided to become a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. For the past five years, she has trained clients ages 13-80 and instructed various fitness classes ranging from Sports Conditioning to Aqua Aerobics and Senior Fitness. She's tough and unrelenting. She believes in hard work and not the word "can't." However, for her, it's not about everyone being a superstar athlete. Instead, she expects you to put YOUR best effort forward. With safety at the forefront, try YOUR best and keep pushing. Continuous baby steps turn into monumental achievements.
When Marita first moved to DC in 2007, she fell in love with boxing at Midtown Youth Academy and it will always have her heart. It might sound crazy, but to her, life is a boxing ring. You move your feet, you thrive off the energy of the crowd, you bob and weave, and you keep pushing forward to achieve your goals. You fight for the things that matter most.
Currently, Marita serves a Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor at LivingWell Health Club at the Washington Hilton and the Fit DC Coach for Ward 1.
