From child to adult, Alexandra wants to help you find your voice! She believes in a nurturing class to encourage exploration of the "singing warrior" within.
Alexandra Phillips, a soprano, is a classically trained opera singer and performer who loves to explore the collaboration and fusions of different genres and techniques. She has performed at venues such as the Kennedy Center and Folger Theatre, and she has recently returned from a three-month performance tour in Italy. In addition, her new CD, High Notes,¯ which includes coloratura opera arias such as Glitter and be Gay¯ from Bernstein, Candide, arias from Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti and Les Contes d'Hoffmann by Offenbach, has recently been released and can be found on iTunes.

As a non native English speaker I found myself hundreds (if not thousands) of times avoiding to use words I did not know how to pronounce or being judged because of my accent. In some way I was pulling myself back and I needed to step forward and "find my voice".
I found a new strength and freedom in my voice practices with Alexandra and also could sing!
Her lessons are amazing, she does not only work with your voice but with your whole person; she uses amazing techniques to release the tension in your body so you can project your voice with power and relaxation and also connect to your emotions.
She fluently leverages work and compassion for the students and is always glad to offer different options to help you to accomplish each exercise successfully according to your own pace and ability.
Working with Alexandra will empower you to find your best with professionalism, love and happiness.
Thank you Alexandra!

Ms. Alexandra, has helped me tremendously to improve my voice skills. Most of my singing experience came from school or church choir where I always sang the Alto – lower note – parts. My goal for taking voice lessons is to improve the high notes.
Ms. Alexandra’s teachings has worked my voice to reach notes that I previously had difficulty and sounded soft or raspy (over-strain). Her voice exercises have corrected the posture of my mouth, interior and exterior, and relaxed the muscles surrounding the voice in order to open-up the voice for clarity and volume. Every voice lesson with her has been a stepping stone to reaching my goal. I can see the troubled areas have improved and become easier to reach. I have even seen my lower-notes sounding clearer, better, rounder, and colorful.
Ms. Alexandra identified my strengths, for example, the lower-notes and coloratura. She then expanded on those strengths by taking them further, working that area to sound even better and also to keep me motivated to reach my other goal because if I had only practiced on my goal, I would eventually ended-up believing I was not good enough to reach those high notes; In order for me to reach those notes, I had to be confident, relaxed, and not have my mind preoccupied on reaching that goal. Ms. Alexandra knew this already and kept the lessons varied and interesting.
Through her teachings I have come to understand how my voice functions, and identify the shape of my mouth in order to identify different levels of sound. She is very patient and understanding and has great ability expand on your current knowledge, and nurture a beginning singer, like me.

I contacted Alexandra a few weeks ago looking to improve my voice range, diction, and to learn to better project my voice. I am still a work in progress but I have been thrilled with the results so far.
Alexandra has worked mostly with me to learn to "open" my voice and to make it more "vertical". During the time after our sessions, everyone can tell the differance.
I still need to make habits of the things that she is teaching me, but I have no doubt that if I do, I will reach my goals.
I strongly reccomend Alexandra as a voice coach and will be continuing my lessons with her,

I have been working with Alexandra for just a short time now - only two months or so, but in that time I've increased the awareness of my voice as instrument as well in how to use it. To date, we have been working on both the technical and performance driven aspects of singing, and I am delighted with my progress.

I wanted Alexandra to teach my daughter Hannah after hearing one of her students at PAVAN in Winchester 2 summers ago. This young lady was a rising freshman and at a level far above most of the seniors there. I knew Alexandra would be able to help prepare Hannah for college auditions.
Alexandra is a patient and persistent teacher and developed a close rapport her students. My child is also a shy and gentle soul and feels very comfortable asking Alexandra questions during a lesson.
Hannah is going to continue training with Alexandra for the summer, she wants Hannah to expand her repitoire, but I'm sure some Disney will get back into a few lessons.
All 3 colleges at which Hannah auditioned accepted her. Thank you Alexandra!!
I really think anyone would gain tremendously from taking lessons with Alexandra be it for personal enjoyment, prepartaion for auditions or furthering professional development.
Alexandra is great. We love her.

I completely agree with Chelsea's testimonial. Our teenage daughter has taken voice lessons with Alexandra for two years and has learned so much. Alexandra is a gifted, classically trained singer, but she is very open to having her students sing whatever music interests them. Our daughter has learned proper vocal technique from Alexandra and has developed her voice and performance tremendously. Alexandra is a gentle soul and especially well suited to working with young people. She is patient and kind. She wants to help each singer develop their individual talent. Anyone who can study with Alexandra is a lucky person. She is wonderful!

Alexandra is a very kind and giving teacher. She is very patient with her students. My daughter was a very shy girl before she took lesson with Alexandra. Alexandra not only patiently helped her overcome her fear to sing on the stage, but also helped her to explore what she did not know she could do.
We are grateful to have Alexandra as my daughter's voice teacher. She allows her students to develop and grow in their own way but at the same time with a solid training on the techniques.
We strongly recommended Alexandra for anyone who is looking for a voice teacher.

A. Because it can be a little intimidating to sing for someone new, it is extremely important to find an instructor you feel comfortable and confident with; trust is vital to learning. I believe it is imperative to have a playful attitude when exploring a student's vocal possibilities - learning should be fun. I want students to be excited and look forward to their lesson.
A. I am a highly-trained professional, classical singer with extensive experience. I love teaching music and believe that I can impart my experience and knowledge to my students whether they are children or adults. I can communicate techniques that will assist students in reaching their goals. I think that singing and learning should be fun.
A. I am often asked if I teach other styles in addition to classical. My answer is - I teach singing. - The basic breathing and vocal techniques are similar, so students will still learn methods to reach their optimal voice and sing the type of songs they love best.
A. I enjoy seeing students' faces when they have just achieved something vocally they didn't think they could do. Everyone has more potential than they realize. It is a matter of having the proper direction, an open mind and being patient.
"It has almost been a year since I began learning under Alexandra, and in what has seemed like a short time, I have learned much. Her style of teaching is unique and all her own, but also incorporates important techniques and skills vital to any singer, serious or not."

A. I recently held 3 vocal seminars at Hemphill Fine Arts Gallery, where I introduced basic vocal techniques to people who wanted to expand upon their vocal abilities. It was part of the show at the gallery called, "The Workingman Collective," a group of artists who connect everyday objects as art. It was a safe environment for students to explore their singing voice in a very fun and nurturing space!
