I am a degreed chemist who has been in the industrial/commercial water treatment business since 1972. No residential business, please. The focus is on controlling corrosion, deposition, and fouling to acceptable levels to maintain clean heat transfer surfaces, while conserving as much water as possible. I am well-versed in the treatment of boilers and cooling towers, as well as being quite knowledgeable in water softener operation.
I will accept emailed questions (even from residential) through our website and answer all emailed questions at no charge; that is a goodwill thing to attract business to our online store. People are more likely to buy something from someone they have had dealings with and have come to trust. We also have a forum at the Missed Perceptions website if you wish to ask a public question and receive a public response.
Regarding trust, our company is a member of the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating, and we have a client testimonial page, which gives you some comments from satisfied customers. We are a veteran-owned small business.
Initial on-site visits to gather data for the purpose of preparing a proposal are always free.
I generally perform on-site chemical analysis with a report left for and explained to my customer. This report interprets the analysis, so a non-chemist can understand it, and provides detailed steps that the customer can take to correct any problems found. My work is thorough and detailed.

I was very glad to place an order with a veteran owned business...thank you for your service Dick. Dick continues to provide service, but now it's to his customers, and he does an excellent job. I couldn't find plastic test equipment and he searched his vendors and found it for me. I've called him on several occassions and was surprised when he answered his own phone, how nice to not get a machine. He provides a personal service, your order feels like it is the most important one he is dealing with. Thanks again for all the help.

I've recently had the good fortune to talk with Dick about the treatment of water towers. He was very generous with advice being very helpful. I also purchaced a test kit at a very competitive price.

Dick is a source of unique knowledge on water treatment. I go to him for advice whenever I encounter an uncommon problem that has no “text book” solution. Dick is able to use his knowledge of chemistry and his water treatment experience dating back to 1972 to solve difficult problems and explain the solution in easy to understand non technical terms. I highly recommend Dick to solve any water treatment problem that you may have.

As the owner of a small diaper service start-up, Dick was a great help to me answering the questions I had about water testing for laundry, even when it was an area outside of his normal expertise. I won't hesitate to contact him with any future questions or recommend his services to others.

Dick has been our Waterment Specialist for the last 10 years. His knowledge of the chemicals we use, the testing and use of the metering devices is great. If we ever had any problems in our systems he would go out of his way to find out the problem. It is sad to see him leave because of the quality of his service.

Five years ago I took over the property management of a 50-unit, 6-story condo building that was built in 1968. The rooftop cooling tower was an open recirculating water system. Dick set up proper water treatment and cleaned up an improper treatment system that resulted in, basically, a lake on our roof with algae, and also a clogged system. With his recommendation of filtration, it has cleared the system and saved us a fortune in removal of radiators in order to flush and clear them.
Dick also reviewed the building and discovered the products we were using were corroding our air conditioning drip pans, as well as clogging our drains. He suggested a product to keep them clean and also acted as an anticorrosive. Our plumbing and maintenance costs have been greatly reduced since his engagement.
We'd definately recommend his expertise.

Dick continues to amaze me with the detailed knowledge he has of many diverse subjects. Dick is one of the first people I turn to as a consultant on water treatment matters. He continues to guide me and supply me with information that answers my questions. He is a resource you would do well to have on your team.

A. There are some water treaters with no experience. Avoid them since they are learning at your expense.
There are some water treaters who have a "Certification" from some trade organization. They sought to get this "Certification" as a tool to gain credibility. They may or may not be knowledgeable. Be skeptical. They only had to properly answer the majority of 100 questions to get "Certified". They may be "fact memorizers" who retain knowledge only long enough to pass a test. They may not understand the concepts.
Try to find and work with chemists or chemical engineers since they are able to solve one of a kind problems that no one thought to put on an examination sheet.
Ask for references.
A. There are a lot of companies promoting devices that are "Non-Chemical". The vast majority of them do not work.
Filters are "Non-Chemical", but they work by well established and well understood principles.
Things to consider are:
1. Are the claims made for the devices credible?
2. Are they technology based? (One claimed to "change the molecular structure of water"..huh?)
3. Are the claims provable or simply anecdotal?
4. Do they compare the device to poorly managed water treatment programs?
5. Can we calculate the required energy needed to create the claimed result?
6. Does the system draw or consume the required amount of energy to achieve that result?
7. Is there another explanation for the reported successes? An example could be scaling stopped after water treatment stopped, but it turned out that the water was actually corrosive with respect to calcium carbonate, so scaling never should have been the problem in the first place.
8. If letters of testimonial for the device are provided (and they typically are); can the claimant be found, are the devices still in use, and has some water treatment been reintroduced?
9. Often the devices are patented to gain credibility. You can Patent many things.
A. 1. How long have you been in this business?
2. Who can I contact who will recommend you?
3. What experience to you have in treating equipment like ours?
4. What are your qualifications to handle our business?
5. Who do you go to for technical/laboratory support?
6. What metrics do you use to measure the success of your programs?
7. How often can I expect to see you?
8. Can I see examples of your written reports to other customers?
9. Is your company accredited by the Better Business Bureau?
10. What are your limits of liability insurance?
11. Can I get a copy of your insurance certificate with our company stated as additionally insured?
