Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Quality and selection are extremely important. We strive to offer custom solutions and special order the items that meet your needs. Cheap is rarely the way to a good project. When you are creating something meant to endure for many years, decades or possibly centuries why risk premature failure to save a few cents on the all important materials you work with.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Home centers are terribly expensive to buy hardwood from. Calculate out the price based on board footage and you will see how they can be 50 to 200% more.
Kiln dried lumber is in most cases is essential to starting a successful project. It minimizes the possibility of failure. Buying lumber out of someones barn or attic often results in increased amounts of waste, extra effort in dimensioning, premature equipment failure (dirty boards dull tools) and extra time spent in acclimating the lumber.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Can you give me a couple of references? How many years of experience do you have? Can you explain (input question here)? (FAS grading standards, why lumber prices change, board feet, the drying process, gross vs net tally, steamed walnut)

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. You should have a vision in mind, pictures from books or magazines are great. Rough dimensions or plans are very helpful. We can help you select the materials for your project. Sometimes they are not what you might expect. Often there are less expensive alternatives.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. 1.) Selection, we offer the largest selection in 120+ miles
2.) Experience, the shop manager alone has been with the company for 23 years.
3.) Concern for our customers and their projects... we want your projects to turn out exactly how you want them... they reflect how well we perform as well.
4.) Customer service.... we provide superior customer service. We will make any practical accomodations that we can to fit your needs. (Ask the other guys to wait 15 minutes past closing time...)
