Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. I always encourage businesses to be proactive with their bookkeeping rather than reactive. Have your adviser explain where your money goes. It is very important to be aware of your financial condition and to maximize ways to save taxes before the year is over. This will almost always reduce your taxes and avoid surprises at tax time. It is not advisable to do your own taxes, let a professional handle them for you.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Clients should always question why a tax professional is calling them and should respond as quickly as possible. If I were the customer I would want my accountant to explain everything about my financial condition of my company to me in detail. I would want to find ways to cut costs and who better to advise me than my accountant who is analyzing my numbers?

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. How long have you been in the field of public accounting?
Have you handled customers in my field before?
What tkind of information do I need to give you each month
to prepare my financial statements?
Can I have some references from other clients you currently deal with?
Do you keep up with current technology?
Do you stay abreast of current tax legislation, available tax credits and other small business tax incentives?
How much past history do you need to build a new client file for me?
