I provide one on one tutoring for those in need of supplemental instruction in courses that do not seem very clear when a teacher presents the material. I am available from grade school through college level tutoring in the mathematical sciences and also offer chemistry and physics tutoring.
I offer tutoring on a more personal level, whereas teachers just write on the board and expect that it is "good enough." Customers and their parents find that I'm a patient, friendly, and fun person to be around.
Your success is my first priority.
Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. Most of the common referrals are test preparation. Clients generally like to freshen up on the material or just learn the material to a point to do well on a test. I ask clients to get a list of the focus areas to minimize the time for the session and maximize the effectiveness of the session.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Research your providers. Sometimes pricey is not always the most effective, and other times the cheapest one isn't the best value. Tutors are a dime a dozen, and if the student does not relate to the tutor, there could be a barrier. Its okay to use a provider once, and try another.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. If I were a customer I wish I knew how to be patient. Being a student, I also share the same feelings about teachers as my customers; they sometimes do rush through lessons or do not properly explain the material for it to be effective. Being a student, the process of teaching comes more natural.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. When seeking a tutor for yourself or a son/daughter it is important to know the subject and the primary reason for the need. If the use is primarily to finish a lot of homework, then the problem will not easily be resolved. Set up a plan; if the subject at hand is math and there is a lot of homework to complete, identify what is hindering the process. This will make it easier for the tutor to teach the student how to solve the problems and for the student to learn the material effectively.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I strive for results; students get tutoring to strengthen their skills, or even just to make it past the next test. I look into the academic futures of students so that they can learn and apply what they learned in a session to homework, quizzes and tests.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. The rewards of a student succeeding at his/her goal. When a student gets tutoring just to "pass" the next test, I feel very rewarded when they do better than what they expected. I don't take the test for them, but I feel just as rewarded with the scores they receive.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. I have always loved helping people. When I was in highschool, a lot of my friends would ask me for help, and I found that I was pretty good at conveying the information and breaking it down for them. I have been offering my services ever since.
