Jana P. says, "Cubela Plumbing. Awesome! We had such a major plumbing issue with our pipes. We had know idea what the problem was. Water coming into the house when we showered, flushed a toilet, ran the garbage disposal or did laundry. Was a Nightmare for us. We called a local plumber who came out. $350.00 diagnosed our problem “as a pipe at the wrong angle”-we have a septic. We feared the cost to repair-so we held off on repairing to save$. We went to laundry mats, didn’t flush, took showers super fast and still had to mop our floors. Didn’t cook or use sink or disposal. After a few weeks of living this nightmare-we called the same plumber who never returned our calls until one day he called back to say his manager was sick and they couldn’t help us despite the $350.00 we put down on the diagnosis. Then we found “Cubelaplumbing”. They called us back, they came in and diagnosed the problem, (it was very cold outside that night) they spent 5 hours on our plumbing problems even having to run to a shop to get extra supplies to fix problems. They had to put supper bright lights on the lawn to see what they were doing. They showed us the problems that were going on. My husband even took photos of problems. Our home is fairly new. Looks like a builder problem- pipes were never glued together and one pipe had a large hole in it. One of the main pipes was at a wrong angle. Can’t believe this team having to repair all these issues for us. My husband and I can’t get over how diligent they were. How hard they worked. How professional they were. How timely they were. How they really knew what they were doing and explaining it to us. Just an absolutely amazing team! Our house is running beautifully now! And at a great price-we thought it would be so much more! We reach out to them today - Cubelaplumbing - and say a HUGE THANK YOU!!! You are both are so AWESOME!!!!!!!"See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do plumbers charge per hour?

Depending on the service you need (unclogging a drain, fixing a pipe, installing new pipes, etc.), plumbers charge anywhere from $45-$165 per hour. Plumbers often operate on a fixed rate model, too. Some won’t charge hourly rates because the variables involved in their work makes it less practical to do so.

Plumbers will scope out the work, calculate the cost of parts, and roll it together with other fees to give you an estimate for the job. They may even offer standard flat rates for things like installing a toilet or a sink. Reach out to plumbers near you to get an accurate cost estimate for your project or repair.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
