I was at an event where the appetizers were catered by Richies and they were delicious. The fried pork was so tasty and tender; the mofonditos had the jus the right amount of seasoning and the garlic sauce was perfect. The turnovers didn't last long - they were delicious and the mini pasteles was a first for me. I didn't know you could do them that small - yet soooo good. I love eating there as well. After the party I had to see what else was in store. Mofondos, mmm, they got me with those and shrimp creole. Thumbs up to Richies.

Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My work stands out because in my area there is no one who does catering based on Puerto Rican cooking. It stands out because our seazoning ingredients are fresh made, not frozen. We also cook certain foods that are hard to find. Most important of all, our work stands out because we do our work with love and pride. Our main goal is to see our customers happy and have them come back to request our services again and again.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. We have over 20 years of experience in the food industry, not only as business owners. Our experience was acquired by working hard in many types of restaurants as entry level and working our way towards management. We have always been in compliance with all the rules that regulate the hospitality industry. Food safety ranks top on our list and therefore, we maintain our Food Safety certification up to date and take pride in our business. We take pride in our cooking by using the freshest ingredients (never frozen) in our daily cooking.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I have always had a passion for food since a very early age. This passion took me in search of jobs in the hospitality industry. I strived to learn as many cooking techniques and recipes as possible, all the while perfecting them according to my culture. Many of my recipes were passed on from my grandparents. My family and friends always requested my service even though I was not doing any catering, they just thought that the food was great and encouraged me open up my own business. Hearing so many great compliments from family, friends and strangers who have tasted my food were the turning point.
