Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. The most common type of project that for which I am sought is custom online database solutions and online ColdFusion applications.
In other words, a client request might be... "We want an online database site, where visitors can search, and log into a secure private area as members, that we can control from an editable backend..." You get the idea.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. For new clients and projects, my quotes will not beat the kid that is just out of college. However, clients quickly come to realize the value of working with a seasoned professional with such extensive experience and expertise.
I am often called "our creative guy" or "our web guy" by my clients because they just jot me an email with anything they need and I handle it quickly and completely.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. The main thing that a good customer has learned is that they spend more money in the long run when they try to build something cheap. Most of my best clients have come with problems to solve from novice designers and developers they hired which could not accomplish what was needed. Unfortunately, most of these messes need to be rebuilt from scratch which means that all invested was a complete waste. A hard lesson, but a valuable one.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. How do you assure that my site will not be hacked? Do you have any experience with enterprise-level security?
What middle-ware do you use for dynamic pages and database interaction?
Do you design your web pages with tables or CSS divs?
Can you also produce a matching printed brochure and show me a 3D design of a trade show booth?
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. It is good to have a few sample sites that are similar to what is desired. Also, having a reasonable budget for the project or campaign is necessary.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. The most typical question is "How much do you charge for a website?" to which the most typical answer is "How much does a HOME cost?" The point being that the actual answer of a price depends on many variables and specifications such as location, land, how many bedrooms and exactly where you want the tennis court and helicopter pad. ; )
