Age 23
The late and great Dr. Norman Vincent Peale was so moved by one
of my human interest articles in Grit Magazine that he asked for, and
received, my permission to read the article to his radio audience.
Age 30-40s
I owned several businesses in which advertising, sales, marketing, PR and/or business consulting was the base operation. As a professional writer and photographer I created two magazines and were their owner/editor/publisher. I received a letter of Thank You from the State
for my JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS plea I continually ran in one of my magazines. I also received a letter of ThankYou for my work on one of the States Festivals. As a business consultant I aided an oilman in Abilene, Texas who was failing at his attempt to pioneer the areas first independent
Yellow Pages book. I changed the method for deliveries, corrected the financial and sales problems in his current mode of operation, created amusing advertising to generate interest in the project and devised the routing for the delivery of the books. The book was a huge success and the expanding
company was bought several years later by Hearst. While in Abilene I also aided the owner of a chain of low profit video game arcades named Fantasy World. Taking over Management of the Abilene arcade I was able to devise and innovate
the way an arcade should be run to maximize profits and attract more customers.
My ideas and creation of the Fantasy World Record Board to draw customers was highly successful and due to tripling profits, was implemented in each of the owners other arcades. In Albany, GA I aided the owner of a publication titled Penny Power. The owner wanted to sell the publication, but could not generate interest from buyers. I created a one inch banner ad to run at the top of the pages of the publication. For $25.00 any business could have top page recognition by telling
what they liked about Penney Power and how advertising in it had boosted their sales.
As intended, several weeks later the ads attracted a buyer. I also created and operated LOVE-A-DATE? the first ad and answer dating service in the local paper in Abilene.
Age 30-40s
As a dedicated Air Force spouse I received merits for my services to the Military. In the magazines I owned during Desert Storm I united area businesses to run a monthly page of our prayers for those serving overseas. In the Country of
Panama after Just Cause, and pregnant at the time, I volunteered to help guard the base from hostiles by joining the K-9 handlers on their walking patrols each night. During the day I worked on uniquely landscaping our base house
which won an award for my husband and I from the Base Commander for having the best yard on the base. Upon retiring to Florida in 1996 I have been working with the RCS in Clearwater by providing stuffed animals for the children
of battered women seeking protection and shelter at The Haven. RSC has given me a letter of recommendation for my work.
50s
With my children grown I returned to owning businesses.
I was an independent vendor for the St Pete Times and later for the Tampa Tribune. I now own two online businesses.
