Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Trained by some the best professionals in the industry, including Paul St. John - creator of the St. John system of neuromuscular therapy and Margie Eschew in Swe-Thai.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Inside secrets should never be a part of Massage Therapy since it is all about sharing and using our knowledge as health care professionals. What I do have are skills that unfortunately the vast majority of other therapist lack: certification in posturology and a full understanding of the causes of pain, discomfort and tension by examining and analyzing postural distortions. In addition to specific therapeutic treatments, my clients receive advise as to how to contribute to their own well being via postural awareness, stretches, etc..
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. What training have you received and do you have a portfolio with all relevant certifications.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. It's called the "therapeutic goal". What exactly is the client looking for during a single or multiple massage therapy sessions. The communication or mutuality between the therapist and the client is crucial to achieving the therapeutic goal of any and all clients.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. The essential part of my work relates to cause and effect or like the classic term states: "function follows form". A full understanding and analysis of biomechanics, postural distortions separate me from the "traditional" massage therapist in finding out the "root" causes of pain, discomfort, injury and stress. In short, most massage therapists simply massage the area where pain is felt. However, the cause of pain, tension and stress may originate elsewhere in the body.
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. Yes, I have a client with severe scoliosis and chronic back, shoulder pain to the point of him almost being unable to work or applying for disability. He had been over the course of 12 years to chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists but all he received were short term relief, at best. Once I did a postural analysis, I discovered he had a hemi-pelvis (one is born with it). One side of his pelvis is naturally smaller than the other. X-rays confirmed the finding. All he needed was a lift under the hemi-pelvis everytime he sat to correct the distortion. Once the lift was used, the entire postural chain up to the neck/head area was corrected and his pain gradually disappeared and massages for his scoliosis were successful. If he had been diagnosed with this hemi-pelvis from the beginning, he would not have had to suffer over a decade of chronic pain and discomfort.
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
A. My pricing depends on the length of the session; whether a full body postural evaluation is done before the massage session and in developing a treatment plan; travel time/distance or client travels to me; and whether it will require deep work as opposed to a relaxation/swedish massage. I also provide packages for couples; multiple massages (bundled); professional organizations, including hospitals, churches, medical offices, weddings, etc..
