Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Residential households

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Price shouldn't always be the determining factor. Anyone can "low ball" another company, but you may be missing out on quality service or quality standards.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. It's very hard work...It's very demanding...and it gets very hot...If you take your time and use the right products, you could have the same results.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Nothing is really required when seeking me out. I will come to your house/business and offer you a free estimate. I supply the equipment. I only ask that if you want your interior windows cleaned, please make room for me to bring a ladder inside (when applicable).

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We are very detail oriented, and we take a lot of pride in our work. 90% of our business is based on repeat customers. Not only do we get in and get the job done, but we also try to build a relationship with the client so that they can rely on us for all of their household needs.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I like meeting new people, and seeing the look on their face once they see the finished work...and I like it more when I hand them their bill, and I get to see the expression when they realize how affordable our rates are.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How did I survive in this industry in Maryland when it is only sunny for 6 months out of the year? I adapted and incorporated other aspects of business and service into what I was already doing.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I painted a three-story house one time. It had 93 windows. I never managed to drip any paint on any of them. However, about a week after I had finished, the home owners called me and said they needed their windows cleaned because a "whole mess" of pollen had covered them.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I love what I do...I always hear people say that window cleaning isn't a profession. I never understood that. I have a schedule, I have deadlines, and I have to maintain inventory as well as clientele. I'm very diligent, and I love the satisfaction of garnering repeat business.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Demand

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I had a contract cleaning windows and floors with 8 Wal-Marts throughout Western Maryland. This was a year to year contract. They liked our company's work so much that they signed us to a 5-year contract before I moved to Florida.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I always stay up to date. I frequent trade shows involving window cleaning materials and window cleaning products. But I still find that the best way to do my job, is the way that I started 4 years ago.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Products.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. I did a 45 window, two story home, interior and exterior, that took me 2 1/2 hours and cost $254.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. I charge per window. If there is a lot of ladder work involved the price may be a little higher. If interior/exterior is needed, I usually knock off a couple of dollars.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Start up is very hard...Competition is fierce. Be prepared to go through a drought. Have a back up plan for when business is slow. Don't limit yourself to one aspect.
