Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Ask how long the company has been in business, what professional trade groups they belong to and how long do they warranty their work.
You will also want to make sure that they are licensed by the State. You can verify that they are licensed by going to http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/re/index.html click on "Verify a License". and enter the inspectors name.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Are you licensed?
How long have you been in business?
Are you insured?
What will you do for me?
Do you warranty your work? If so for how long and to what degree?
What other services do you offer?
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. A cheap inspection is exactly what it sounds like, a cheap inspection. Remember price is what you pay, service is what you need. An inspector will always charge what he/she is worth. If you cannot pay for a quality inspection you should question whether on not you can really afford the house you are wanting to buy. You are never wealthy enough to afford a poor quality inspection, it will come back to haunt you.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. As one of Florida's premier Home Inspection companies we at Firm Foundation Home Inspections never compromise when it comes to inspecting, reporting or customer service. You will always find cheaper, but never better. If you are looking for the cheapest home inspection then we are not the company for you.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. The joy of helping people who are looking to make one of the biggest decisions of their life, and making new friends at the same time.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. The questions are so varied that it is impossible to list them. My answer is always the truth, even if it is not what the client really wants to hear at the time.
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. I was called to inspect a house for a buyer. The house was 75 years old and the sellers husband was a general contractor. There was something odd about the wood floor, it didn't have that "solid" feel and I was able to bounce on the boards ( I weigh over 200 lb). After entering the crawlspace under the house (it was a tight squeeze I assure you) I discovered that the floor joists were broken and were being held up by bottle jacks (used to jack up cars when they have a flat tire). The sellers agreed to have the floors repaired saving my client over $20,000.00
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. I am required to do a minimum of 26 hours of continuing education each year. The problem with 26 hours is that it's still not enough to keep up to date with the latest developments. I usually end up doing somewhere in the region of 50 - 55 hours a year.
