Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Absolutely evaluate 2-4 firms that you feel are qualified to do the work you have in mind. Follow your instincts regarding professional and personal fit. Being comfortable with the professional approach and style is very important. Most projects result in long term relationships being formed when there is the right match between the business and the provider.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. The inside secrets to the coaching and consulting business are no different than any other profession.
Most important from a client's perspective is the credibility of the coach/consultant. This is not about the testimonials. Engage the professional in a conversation and I know you will be able to tell.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Do you have actual experience or only consulting/teaching experience?
How do you propose structuring your work to apply specifically to my business?
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. The number one question that should be asked is the relevant experience the coach or consultant has for the particular situation of concern. Then that should be the foundation for a dialogue leading to your conclusion this expert makes the most sense for me.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. "No reports Just results" is my theme. This means the focus of my work is on results you can measure. For example: increased sales, higher gross margin, increased net income, higher liquidity. Yes there will be some reports. However these are developed for you to achieve continually higher levels of business performance.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. Each client brings unique challenges since every person is different. Seeing clients move forward and achieve the goals defined at the start of the project is very rewarding.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. The answer to this question is in two parts: first there is the question what is your fee? Answer - I don't know until we define the work and the benefit to you. When there is substantial measurable benefit, the project makes sense. The second most commonly asked question is do you guarantee the result? The answer is "do you guarantee to follow the agreed upon action steps.? " If you do, then I will guarantee you will be very happy with my guidance.
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. There are a lot of people who promote services I offer who have never done the work they are offering to provide. My experience is extensive and in most cases I have done most of what I offer. In fact experience has taught me what works and what doesn't work. In addition I have hundreds of client examples supporting my action steps that will be implemented during the project.
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. My education now is from people I connect with and the books/seminars where I invest. If you decide to connect with me you will be amazed at the people I am connected with. A. My pricing is not complicated. I evaluate each client in terms of the time and professional expertise required to achieve the intended results. I work with each client on an approach to the work and fees that best suits them as well as my firm.
Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?
A. There are three parts of my career that helped me the most in becoming an effective coach and consultant. They are being a CFO for a number of medium to large sized businesses. Also working for several consulting firms so I learned the processes of a successful engagement. Finally I owned several of my own companies. There is nothing like the experience of being and owner.
