Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Home and termite inspections seem to go hand in hand. When a client of mine requests a home inspection they usually request a termite inspection. But lately people are requesting a wind mitigation inspection report with their home inspection as well.

A wind mitigation inspection report allows the insurance company you choose to insure your home the opportunity to give you deductions on your home owners insurance policy based on certain construction features of the home. If the home has these features, deductions are available based on each particular feature your home has. The savings usually start at around $200 on an average home, per year!

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Each home inspector has a different work history. Check their experiences and credentials. Find out what their specialties are and see if the inspector your looking at has the expertise needed for the type of inspection your looking to have completed.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Where as most inspectors take an hour and a half on an averaged size home inspection, we take about two and a half to perform our inspection. We are thorough and detailed in documenting all of our findings. We also do not create reports on site at the time of inspection. This would not allow a professional inspector adequate time to document all his findings with issues on the home. We send a completed, fully documented photo report to your email within 24 hours of completing your inspection.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and this job is well suited to my personality. I've always enjoyed construction and studying construction methods, as well as finding what makes a building, structure or system better or last longer. This field allows me to study where or what causes these things to fail and how to prevent it. As well as the opportunity to help people make an informed, well educated decision on their personal home (one of the most important decisions an individual makes).

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Most home buyers ask me at the end an inspection, "does this home fail", or they'll ask, "Would you buy this home". These are questions that we do not answer, and here is why. First, a home never "fails" an inspection. As an inspector our soul purpose is to document our findings on a specific home. Some homes have more issues to document which will cost more money to repair. That is where you, the buyer, come in. Only you know how much your able to spend on repairs. If the seller is not able or willing to make repairs, then that responsibility falls upon the buyer. Some buyers have a budget for repairs and others do not. Your purchase of the home depends on what issues lie with the home that will ultimately become your monetary responsibility. So when your looking for a home, look for a home that appears to fit your expectations of a repair budget. We'll help you find out if your right through our inspection and look for any possible hidden issues.
