Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Do your research and make sure the person you are hiring is a professional. There are so many photographers out there who seem very "affordable" but chances are they are inexperienced and uninsured. These are your photos that you will have for the rest of your life. If someone seems too good to be true, they probably are and it's definitely worth taking an extra look.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Only about 20% of what a photographer does is taking photos. It seems so glamorous to most people, but we really spend most of our time doing other business related tasks. Shooting is a small part of it, but absolutely has the biggest impact. Remember that your photographer has so many other jobs that don't require picking up a camera.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Make sure your photographer is insured. It is so important for your piece of mind, to know that if something were to happen to your photos, you and the photographer would be covered.

It is also good to know what kind of education your photographer has in regard to their field. Did they just buy their camera yesterday? Or have they been to school and studied photography?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Before you hire a photographer for a specific job, you should have a good idea of what kind of photographs you want out of it. It's much easier to hire someone you know takes photos that you love, rather than trying to get a photographer to bend and create photos you love, but that they've never shot before. The only way to make sure you are going to get what you want is by hiring someone you know already takes photos that way.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. When I graduated with my associates degree, I knew I wanted to continue on for my bachelor's, but I didn't yet know what I wanted to do. I decided to take 2 years and travel the world to "think" about it. I was fortunate to do this and to take a camera with me on my travels, which I never wanted to put down. This helped lead me to the road that I am on now.
