Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Only Hire LICENSED and INSURED Contractors. One may think that hiring an unlicensed worker under the table will save money but the reality is that it could cost in the long run in more ways than one.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. How does one find the best contractor to do the best job at the best price? Personally verify their license is active. Verify their insurance is current. Ask for references. Get every little detail about the work to be done in writting before signing a contract. On larger projects, pay as the job progresses. DO NOT put all the money up front. Don't make the final payment until inspections/permits are complete/closed and you get a release of lein. Are you happy with the results? If not, make them fix it until you are satisfied.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. What state and local websites can I go to in effort to verify your license/s are current?
When will your insurance agent send me a certificate of liability and workers compensation insurance (or exemption certificate)?
Can you provide references?
How often will you be on the jobsite overseeing the work?
What kind of warrantee/guarantee do you provide?
Will you put that in writting?
"Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions"

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Do I want it done cheap or done right at a fair price? What is my budget?
