FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Continuing Education is a vital part of my industry. Every two years, I'm required to take 14 hours of education for my construction industry licenses (general, roofing & plumbing). On top of that, I have to take additional hours of classes for my Mold-related licenses (assessor & remediator). Furthermore, I have to take separate classes for my Inspector license. Most contractor find these classes to be a waste of time, or even a money-grab. I'm a little less cynical. License-holders become licensed at different times in history. Some as far back as the 1970's. As you can imagine, the building technologies, laws, codes and other aspects of our industry have changed and improved. The continuing education requirements play an important role in making sure every license holder is aware of these updates and changes.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I used to be in the IT industry. I'm CompTIA A+ and Microsoft MCP, MCSA & MCSE certified. In the late 90's, when the dot.com bubble burst, I began doing website development for a few companies. One of those companies was a General Contracting firm. I found construction management to be very interesting and rewarding. So, I started working there on the ground level; doing demolition. From there, I found more trade-work that I wanted to learn about; plumbing, A/C, electrical, roofing. I wanted to know it all. I've gathered work experience working for pretty much every trade. With that experience, I pursued getting licensed in the various construction fields. As of today, I personally hold a General Contracting, Roofing, Plumbing, Home Inspector, Mold Assessor & Mold Remediator licenses. In August, I passed the Class "A" Air Conditioning license, and am currently pursuing a Real Estate Sales Associate license.
