Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Many people come to me as a last resort. Paying money to save a marriage is not something that comes to peoples' minds early in the recovery process especially in these difficult times.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Ask the provider a lot of questions during a phone interview before you ever step foot in his or her office. Often you can tell if a helper is a good match simply over the phone. It will help your "fingers do the walking."

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Marriage coaching is mostly talking and doing homework between sessions. The most help comes between the sessions as homework is processed.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. The couple needs to count the cost of marriage coaching. It will take time, money and motivation. If they are weak in any of these three areas, a change will be more difficult.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I am problem-based not symptom-based like most therapists and counselors. I go after the problem, not what the problem does.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Helping people see their lives from a distance.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How long will marriage coaching take? Usually only 10 sessions, if I can keep the couple motivated.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. Watching a couple who scores very low on my love survey get better and better scores until they attain an in-love score!

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. Enemy No. 1 in marriage coaching is losing motivation. My No. 1 goal is to keep couples motivated.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I wanted to help disciple people on purpose. My desire is to get to know a couple, find out where they want to be, and help them get there.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Currently, I have a couple that is making enormous strides simply because they were looking for someone to help them live together in a better way.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I read books and watch movies on the subject.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. I-marriage coaching looks like it will be taking off. In a society that interacts mostly electronically it is almost a given that soon internet coaching will be the rage.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. I have a couple now that is ready to graduate soon. They came to me distracted from each other by dishonesty, agreeing jointly on almost nothing and hardly spending any time together. As I motivated them to change, they corrected these weaknesses and fell back in love again.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Get a professional degree from an accredited college and start off with a low fee. A majority of your clients will come via word-of-mouth from satified clients.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Does marriage counseling really work? Absolutely. My success rate is 80%!
