Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
There are many talented people in the field I work in. What I do best perhaps is listen to my client and take that information and explore with them what is possible. It is always a process but it works and almost without fail we arrive at a point where we have created an idea together that I put into form for them.
What do you like most about your job?
Each client brings their own ideas to a project and it is usually fun to help them explore their own possibilities and watch it come to life for them. I also enjoy the crafting of a fine beautiful finish. The way it looks and the way it feels. There is a certain perfection in its beauty that makes me stand in awe of the creative process.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
Most customers are usually concerned about the impact of color textures. Color is the trickiest of the two but a primary color theme usually emerges from what is already in the home or coming into it in the way of furnishings, accessories, etc. Texture can also alter the feel of an interior dramatically or subtly. Either way we usually make samples for each client so they can see the direction they are heading in.
If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
Most of the secrets I have uncovered have come from much hard work and many hours of experimenting in the workshop on samples and product compatibility. It would be difficult to say there is "a secret" that would in general be valuable. I am always sharing varying decorative finish options with people. If there were a secret, it might be to learn to, trust your instincts during the process I attempt to take people through to find the right finish, the right look for them. People don't always know what they like but they usually know what the don't like and this process of elimination usually is very helpful in narrowing down choices. This same philosophy can be applied to most things in life as well.
Do you have a favorite story from your work?
Each client I work with helps create a tapestry of stories that add to all that I have been blessed to work on. Usually there are a few laughs between us and a lot of work to create "that something" for them.
