  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

What you need to know when shopping for dance lessons by WeddingDance Pro (Notes) from f/b on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 9:54pm There are many dance studios in the Tampa Bay area where you can take wedding dance lessons, BUT ...very few, if any, specialize in teaching your wedding dance lessons and creating seamless choreography like The Dance Designer and Wedding Dance Pro. Here are a few things to ask when shopping for lessons and what to consider. Ask the teacher let you see their teaching certification This might include a certificate of completion of a dance level ( a.k.a. Bronze, Silver, Gold) Also a membership into a state or National Dance Teacher Org. such as N.D.T.A or N.C.D.A. This should be in the teacher's name, not the studio name. How long is the lesson...really? Many dance studio offer very inexpensive specials to get you in the door. Usually these lessons are based on 1/2 hours not hours. Once the special is over, the studio quotes you several packages at a much higher rate which include groups and parties which are great if you are learning for social reasons, but have nothing to do with you learning your dance routine. Studio lessons are restricted to 50 min.lessons in order to begin the next person on time. Therefore if you begin with a 10 hour/lesson package, you are losing 50-100 mins. of instruction before you begin. How Private are your private lessons? Know that you will be sharing the ballroom floor with several other people who have a lesson at the same time as you. This also means you are sharing the music. You may only get to practice to your song 3 or 4 times during that lesson. Everyone will be watching you. If either of you have a bit of an issue with feeling embarrassed in the beginning, this can slow your learning. What is the rate and/or package deals, is there a contract? Be logical. How long would it take you to learn any new skill such as playing guitar or piano? It take time to train the brain, but once the muscle memory kicks in, look out! Rates should range from $75.00 to $125.00 per hour based on the instructors years in business, and they should all offer a package that brings down the cost...after all, you will need more than one lesson. Seasoned instructors, who may charge more per lesson, usually need less hours to teach you because they have a method developed over years. Therefore cheaper by the hour isn't always the best deal!
