A. I hope none of it becomes common. Carpentry from A to Z and back again. Love the idea of building Cinderella's castle on a smaller scale by a lake as someones summer home. Filled with cabinets, furniture, raise panels on the walls that I made. Or a covered wagon with a pole barn for the oxen to pull it.
A. Hire someone who is love with the work. Devoted to creating craftsmanship. You'll be much happier when the project is finished.
A. To avoid contractors and tradesmen with a Superman complex. Those are the guys that think they can do everything. Raking leaves to building 747's. They're easy to spot. The talk more than they listen and tell you what you want whether you want it or not.
A. A firm picture of what they want it to look like when the project(s) done. I can only live up to or exceed their vision only if they have a vision to start with. I can make some suggestions if needed.
A. It's HIGHER quality with friendly service done right the first time. You, the Owner provide the vision of what the finished product is and I deliver it
A. A lady I did work for called me an artist. Being an accomplish artist herself made that a huge compliment.
A. First its a very creative field of work. Second, it's also dangerous work. A carpenter risks blindness, dismemberment, disability, and death more often than a police officer to repair and or beautify your home. When you haggle over his/her hourly rate your basically telling them they are worth-less.
A. My dad. He sent me to a high school for the building trades. I had an aptitude with working with my hands. He could only afford three kids to collage not all four of us.
A. Yes. I'm a real student of the business. I have even been invited to write for some trade publications.
A. Nothing complicated. Nothing unfair. I charge my time and materials at cost with out a mark-up. Because it takes as long as it takes to do quality work. And materials costs whatever it's going to cost to complete the work. I'm very good at keeping the waist to a minimum.
