Our hard drive crashed June 13, 2013 on our primary computer for the small nonprofit that I work for. My boss took the machine to Fix My PC in Royal Palm Beach. She picked it up three days later. The very next morning the hard drive would not boot up. She took the machine back for another hard drive. They replaced the 2nd hard drive in a timely manner. However, she noticed that the “new” hard drive was running extremely s-l-o-w-l-y. When I returned to work we determined that the speed of the “New Western Digital Green” drive they had installed was unacceptable. I had my husband/personal-tech-support-guy run CrystalDiskInfo on the drive and was surprised to find that the “New” hard drive had a manufacture date of 2009 and over 17000 power on hours. I returned with the tower to Fix My PC in Royal Palm Beach and asked for the hard drive to be replaced and showed them a print out of the CrystalDiskInfo report. Their response was that they would “check to make sure it really was the hard drive they installed.” I felt like Mike was implying that I was trying to steal a hard drive when we had been charged a new price, for a four year old hard drive. I left the tower for a third time and clearly stated that I would run CrystalDisk on the new hard drive when I picked up the machine. When I returned today the tech obliged and opened the tower to show me the manufacture date. I was satisfied that the hardware was indeed new with and 2013 manufacture date, 5 boot ups and 1 power on hour. I was ready to leave and asked for my power cable. The tech informed me that Mike had not logged in a power cable the day before; therefore I must not have left a cable. I dissented. He informed me he would have to view the video feed of when I dropped off the computer to confirm. For a second time in as many days I felt that I was being treated like a suspect, not a customer. After an extended period the tech returned and informed me that they couldn’t find my cable. No apology was made and he refused my request for a new cable instead he offered me a dusty cable with a “it’s not yours, but it works.” I will not be taking any further business to this establishment and I would advise anyone who risks doing business with Fix My PC in Royal Palm Beach to be wary, request to see the manufacture date on any hardware they install, and get a receipt for any cables you leave with them. Unless you enjoy being treated like a common criminal.
Fix My PC Store's reply
We’re sorry to hear about your less-than-awesome experience at Fix my PC Store. We’d like to make it up with you three things. 1.) We’ll give you a copy of our anti-virus software, and our anti-malware software free of charge. If you’d like, we’ll even come to your business or home and set it up: free of charge. 2.) An apology for our mishandling of your experience at our shop. 3.) A follow up of what happened, from our perspective. Normally we charge $100 for the anti-virus bundle and then $85 for an on-site installation. We’d like to come to your workplace or home and set up the software, free of charge. We understand you also received a dusty / old cable which we’ll replace with a new one. We keep extra cables in the back for our own testing purposes, and they aren’t really meant for customers since they aren’t the prettiest – sorry for that. We get high volumes of traffic at our storefront, and the overwhelming majority leave very happy and satisfied. Often times they refer their friends and family to us and the word of mouth marketing has really helped us develop over the past few years. Occasionally, we slip up and mishandle situations that leave the customer displeased. We mishandled your experience and should have replaced the hard drive and power cable, immediately and without question. For that, we are sorry and hope you accept our apology. Lastly, we were truly baffled as to why a new hard drive was pulling up an old manufacture date with so many hours on it. We don’t sell used hard drives, we only buy new (and usually in bulk). We ran CrystalDiskInfo on a few other hard drives and all but two (one being the original hard drive you received) in a shipment of 11 came back as newer. Our supplier was contacted and they’ve agreed to accept returns for both hard drives. Also, we’ll be using CrystalDiskInfo in the future to make sure the new hard drives we receive are in fact new, untouched, and absolutely perfect. Again, we are so sorry for the bad experience. Please let us make it up to you! Fix my PC Store
