I came to LSMG in 2009 as vocal student. I'd never sung in front of anyone except family and was honestly quite nervous to sing in front of Jason Sylvain, owner of LSMG. Well, to make a beautifully long story short, after many vocal lessons, artist showcases/jam sessions that I participated in hosted by LSMG, I am now singing in front of audiences every week at my church and singing with accomplished artists as a background vocalist. I've even sang as a lead vocalist at a popular bar!
LSMG, under the direction of Jason Sylvain and his staff, truly gave life to my gift that would have otherwised remained unused.– Heather Bka Shuga
Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. When looking for a music (performing arts) teacher, you not only want someone who is knowledgable and patient, you want a teacher that is attentive to your individual goals.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Growth in your field should be ongoing. There are many famous performers that still take lessons to keep themselves artistically in shape!
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Ask about his or her background, education and any references they might have. You alway want to make sure that the teacher is a good fit for you.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. LSMG is different because our teachers are working musicians as well with many years of performance experience. Music is ever changing, as a student you want a teacher than is not only well studied but also has a grasp on current styles and ideas.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. Here at LSMG we have several teachers for different disciplines. My name is Jason Sylvain and I teach voice. The most favorite thing about my job is watching someone light turn on to a concept. To see them go from just thinking about being a performer to BEING that performer, that vocalist that they always wanted to be.
