Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Historically, resales have been the majority of any inspectors jobs. The last few years, foreclosures have been dominant. It is more challenging because the condition of the property is usually 'less well kept'.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Make sure that the home inspector is certified.
Make sure he is a full time experienced inspector.
Ask if he has a construction background. If you don't know how to build it or fix it, can you really be an effective inspector? I don't really think so.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Most inspectors want you to get out of their way and let them do the inspection.
I prefer the buyer be with me for the inspection. I will explain what we are looking for and explain what the best solution to a problem is. I will also tell you what to expect any repair to cost you if you have to pay someone to fix it.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I enjoy helping people to be more secure in the large investment they are about to make. Having an inspector that does not mind sharing knowledge and experience about such an important issue is very comforting.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I want anyone I deal with to understand that I feel privileged for them to be confident enough in my knowledge and integrity to offer me the opportunity to work for them.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I have been working on houses my entire life. My father owned rental property and I think he had 5 sons so he wouldn't have to work when he was old. I had worked as a contractor for over 15 years when I decided to go back to school and become a licensed and certified inspector.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I inspected a 10,000 sf mansion that had been 'stripped down' of all the electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems and a lot of the counters and trim. I detailed what the house needed to become livable again and recommended contractors that could help the new homeowners.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. As a member of the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI), I am required to maintain many hours of continuing education courses every year.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. My pricing system is so simple that it is posted on the front page of our website - gahis.com

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. My greatest strength is my integrity period.
