I started piano lessons with Dr. John Stonko of American Piano Academy a year and a half ago after almost thirty years since my last lesson. It has been such a rewarding return!
From the onset, Dr. Stonko has been astute in assessing my abilities and engaged in what I would like to accomplish musically. He has therefore developed a plan personal to me. I think this focus on individual learning distinguishes APA from other piano instruction. In fact, I was wary of the absence of a personal approach when I began my search for a teacher. I think it's fairly common for many piano teachers to assign an all-in-one book of theory, exercises and excerpts of favorite melodies. Consequently, students learn the piano in a very limited manner.
Fortunately, this is not the case with Dr. Stonko.
Whether you are a beginner or wish to resume piano studies, you will find that the lessons with APA are dynamic and worthwhile. You will advance in technique and repertoire. By the way, my husband who has played piano all his life and participates in piano competitions, has also studied with Dr. Stonko and finds his teaching incredibly smart.
On a last note, I would simply add that these are great lessons and every week I am eager to learn more.

I've been bringing my kids to three different teachers at American Piano Academy (formerly Masters of Music) for over six years now, ever since we've moved to Atlanta. We looked and looked for a place where all three kids would be happy before we found APA.

One thing that immediately impressed us was when they interviewed each of my three kids, they immediately realized their different personalities and learning styles and assigned a different teacher to each based on their different needs. It probably would have been easier to have the same teacher for the entire family, but they took the extra effort for the kids' benefit.

My eldest is getting ready to go to college and said that he's never had a better teacher anywhere (in any subject!) He actually told me he was considering going to college here in Atlanta so that he could continue to study at the academy. (Note: His mother thinks he should experience life away from home.) I'll continue to bring my other two children here until they go to college. I feel like this is our musical home and none of us can imagine life without APA.
Each teacher really cares about their learning and their lives; they're like family to us.

When all my chicks fly the coop, my husband and I are going to take lessons from either Dr. J or Dr. B (I hope I'm not too old to learn). One small note: They are a little pricey, but I think worth it. Five Stars for American Piano Academy - We love you!
