FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had been practicing various styles of yoga for many years, including power, hot, Bikram, restorative, yin and vinyasa. In 2013, I had a significant life-changing event which shifted my perspectives. For years, I had been prioritizing work over health, fitness and family. And the life-changing event shifted my paradigm, highlighting the importance of these dimensions of my life which had previously been neglected. I could no longer ignore my health and left my job on a journey of self-healing and discovery. That journey included yoga teacher training in Pachamama, Costa Rica, where I committed to incorporating yoga into my personal practice as a route to spiritual and physical growth and healing. Now, I enjoy 90-minute personal yoga practices five times per week in addition to the private and group classes I teach.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The most common types of jobs I do for my clients involve me traveling to my clients' homes or offices to teach private yoga lessons. I bring mats, blocks, blankets and bands to support my clients' needs, although many of my clients have their own props. The benefit of my service is my clients experience the convenience of personalized yoga classes with an experienced, compassionate, professional. While I travel to my clients, you can also come to me. If this is your choice, you can experience additional discounts off the private hourly and package rates.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Many private yoga lessons are expensive. They are absolutely worth it, though, in order to have that personal touch. Private lessons give the practitioner that extra bit of confidence to join in large yoga classes. With large group classes, it is often a challenge for teachers to personalize adjustments for each person in the class. Yet, when you have 100% of the instructor's attention, magic happens! The difference in your experience of your body and of yoga are evident. I've seen prices range from $40 - $120 an hour, and sometimes more, depending on the experience level of the teacher. Jennifer Aniston, I have heard, has paid her private instructor upwards of $800 per hour. There are a number of wonderful books, DVDs and posters available through Amazon and other outlets that give detailed explanations and can offer additional insights. At the end of the day, though, the live face-to-face interaction with a professional instructor can take your personal practice to the next level of healing and lengthening.
