Hired on Thumbtack

Estelle monogramed baby hats and towels for me. I took them to her home and they were all ready within a couple of days. I loved that she asked me many questions about how she could make the embroidery meet my expectations. She went above and beyond in her work, by washing the items first (I would have never thought of that) and explaining what type of stitching she would use that best suited the material. She had lots of ideas and materials available. She was prompt and her work was outstanding. There is nothing about my experience with Estelle that I would have changed. I have more items that I want her to embroider, and look forward to working again with her soon.

Never got past the initial phone call. When I called and asked to speak to her, she wouldn't identify herself. I had to aske for her twice and identify myself before she would say that I was speaking to Estelle. Very shady. Once she found out I was from Thumbtack, she changed her tone. As I proceeded to tell her about the embroidery project, she kept interrupting me telling me I needed to wash my product before bringing it to her. I explained that I've been doing this for several years, and pre-washing is not necessary. When I finally could get a word in, I went on to ask her to consider the fact that I am a re-seller looking for a permanent embroiderer as she priced my project. Before I could get those words out, she interrupted me loudly saying "No no no no no no!", the way you would scold a pet for tearing up furniture. I guess she didn't want me to talk about pricing. I rushed off the line, as I felt I probably just dodged a bullet. Most thumbtack pros are happy and eager to get new work, to listen and to consider all avenues of payment. The shadiness in the beginning and the rude phone etiquette made me move on from this one.

OMG! BIG misunderstanding here. For the record, I get CRAZY calls all day long. Folks prey on seniors and folks with chronic illnesses (I'm a 62 year old diabetic) so I am careful to be pleasant until I know who's calling. Just because the person on the phone uses my first name doesn't mean I know them. I recognized her name and asked if she were the young lady needing symbols. She said NO although her request asked about my access to symbols. I never got a clear sense of what kind of symbols she required. t is common to pre-wash fabrics before embroidering to remove the sizing in the material which may cause the fabric around the embroidery to be puckered after washing. (See EmbLibrary.com) I said as much but acknowledged that blanks sold as RTE (Ready To Embellish) may not need pre-washing. If a customer prefers no pre-washing, I'm OK with it but I have seen the puckering on a variety of fabrics in the dozen years I've done machine embroidery. Ironically, I AGREE that items prepared for resale should be reasonably priced but before I could complete my sentence, she had hung up. I am neither "shady" nor "rude" Rather than calling this young lady names, I prefer to say that perhaps our miscommunication is the result of my naturally cautious personality and some generational differences. I'm 62 and not accustomed to being addressed familiarly. My 19 year old daughter says I'm REALLY "old school" :-)
