- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began having an interest in dog training with my first dog as a teenager. I took classes with my lab, Raven, and she really struggled with it. It was often quite embarrassing in the class, but we hung in there! By the end, I developed a true love for the training process and amazingly, through our hard work (mine and Raven's!), she ended up earning a ribbon for second place in the class competition! A new love formed from the experience of that first training class and I knew this would be something always in my life. In my early 20's, I worked for a Vizsla and Doberman breeder, in north GA, who showed her dogs around the world. I ran her kennel at her home and was responsible for them all whenever she was out of town, which was frequent with the number of shows she did. My job was to do all the normal care for her large number of dogs, including feeding, exercising, medical care, cleaning up after, bathing and nail care, socialization, and training. This truly solidified my love for working with dogs and I went from working for others to working professionally for myself with clients. I also worked for around 5 years for a big box pet store in Macon as the lead dog trainer in the store before deciding to start up Praising Paws. Sharing my love for dogs is a dream come true for me and I look forward to meeting you and your dogs!
