A. I would like to know that many companies use a low ball price to get in the door and that most of their "training" is in sales, not the chemistry and techniques of carpet cleaning. I'd like to know WHO is in my home, are they background checked and fully trained? Is the company insured? Check the reviews of any company you plan to hire, often you will see reality if you dig a little deeper. Don't let one or two negative reviews sway you if they seem like it was an unusual situation. It actually provides a reality check -- no company would have all 5 star reviews unless they put them up themselves. REal people give things 4 or 3 stars at times.
A. Are your technicians background checked?
Do you have a training program?
How do you clean?
What method do you use for chemically sensitive or allergic folks?
Is this pet safe and child safe?
Do you move furniture?
Can you guarantee your service (big one!)
How long have you been in business?
What steps will you take in doing the cleaning for me?
Is there anything I need to do to get ready for you to come?
Have you ever done this specific service before?
What part of town do you serve?
Is there a service or trip charge?
Who will the technician be that comes to my home (so you know who to expect, what they are wearing, driving, etc.)
A. I guess being a woman, I know what I prefer in cleaning services. I want to be comfortable with who is in my home, and their ability to do a good job, more than I could do myself. I also like a company that gives me all the information I need to make a good decision - I want to know how they clean and what they are using in my home. Since I am chemically sensitive, I need to know if it's green and hypoallergenic.
Although I'm a real do-it-myself-er, I tried Chem Dry in our first apartment when we moved to Georgia and was told it was very safe and would not leave a darker spot like the Resolve was leaving. It worked! And everywhere we moved, I tried to remove spots, musty smells, even a wool carpet smelling like a sheep lived there -- it always got the carpets as clean as possible.
For the money it was a very good job.
A. One day John was at an elderly couple's home and noticed the husband outside on his little scooter . . .and then he fell off! JOhn ran out and helped him get back on the scooter -- it made him feel like he was able to do something very special for the couple, because the tiny little grandma wife was like "I can't pick him up!!" We love our older customers, they are like grandparents or parents to us.
We always try to do a little something extra for them, if they need something lifted or moved or a light bulb changed out . . . something they wouldn't want to call a company out to do. I look for employees who have that kind of servant heart.
A. Yes, we are glad that Chem Dry offers us an annual training meeting in Atlanta, and offers 3-5 additional classes per year on topics like rug cleaning, leather cleaning, marketing, pet urine removal and water damage.
Recently both Jason and I were able to take the 3 day Applied Structural Drying class in Tennessee and learn how to get homes dry when water spills, from a broken pipe or overflow of clean water.
We had to actually dry out a 4 room home inside the building, the attic with wood floors, the basement crawl space and a basement block room with drywall. Every type of flooring, wall surface and furniture were sopping wet!
We worked in groups to do the math (thank God for calculators!) and set the air purifiers, dehumidifiers, fans and furniture to dry. Were we ever surprised the next morning when everything was almost completely dry, pad, carpet, etc. They taught us every different brand and type of equipment out there, and then what was best.
Since we don't have much equipment yet, they are working with me to buy the top of the line equipment so that we can help our customers whenever they have a water damage.
Since Chem Dry is doing this with us, we know that we will have backup in our technical department, in our mad scientist inventors coming up with the products we need and the business back end. They are available as are other Chem Dry owners who have been doing this for years. They are the ones who keep saying, Shelly, you can DO this!
