Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. 3 Secrets
1)Tree Service Companies
2)Equipment Rental Companies
1) Tree Service Companies
Most Tree Services contract out the stump grinding. Most charge the Home Owner more than the Stump Grinder fee.
We charge the Tree Service the same that we charge a Home Owner: $1.50 Per Inch.
The Tree Service will often charge the Home Owner $2.00-$2.50 Per Inch and pocket the difference.
The Home Owner will save money by calling us.
2) Equipment Rental Companies
It usually cost more to rent and grind yourself than calling us.
A Home Owner can rent a small 9HP-11HP Stump Grinder from Home Depot. These machines rent for $90-$125 Per Day.
These grinders are similar to a push lawn mower. They get into tight places.
These grinders do a good job on stumps up to fist size. Any larger stumps and these machines are a real work-out and give the operator a beating.
A Home Owner can rent a Self Propelled Stump Grinder from an Equipment Rental Company. These are 20HP-30HP machines.(Like our Small Machine in the video on our website) These rent for $225 Per Day.
The drawback to this route is the cost, and the trip back and forth to the Rental Store, plus sweat.
The Home Owner can hire us for less than the cost of DIY.
3) Shady Companies
There are some less-than-honest Stump Grinders wanting your money.
Some of these companies have even copied our business name and slogan.
They think by copy-cat tactics that the Home Owner will be fooled.
I encourage customers to always check for Insurance. Take the name of the agent and call to verify proof of insurance. Some shady companies have bogus papers, but by calling the agent it can be verified.
Also check the Business License. Many shady companies are not licensed. The Ga Secretary of State has a search feature to look up company licenses.(We have a link to this on our website)
Always check the Better Business Bureau. The shady companies will never be accredited by the BBB. (We have a link to BBB on our website).
We are an Accredited Business with the BBB and have the highest rating "A+"!
The Stump Man, LLC
"WE GRIND DEEPER FOR CHEAPER!"
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. The Stump Man only specializes in Stump Grinding. We do not cut trees or grass. We do not haul debris or lay sod. However, we do contract for 11 different Tree Service Companies and can recommend a good one if you like.
Be careful when hiring any company that will be using dangerous equipment on your property. Always check their Insurance Policy and Business License.
The Stump Man carries $1 Million Liability Insurance for your protection.
You do not want a "Dabbler" or an uninsured "Copycat" company (some try to ride on our good name) grinding your stumps. You may get a teenager with a rental machine tearing-up your property.
You want a BBB Accredited Skilled Professional that only does One Thing- STUMPS!
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I like meeting people. I enjoy hearing what they plan to do with the area after I grind the stumps.
Since most of our work comes from referrals, I especially love it when a new customer tells me that we were recommended by a previous customer.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. Our most common question is "How much do you charge to grind a stump?". We keep our pricing simple and cheap.
We measure across the stump to get the diameter at ground level. We start measuring where the wood or roots disappear into the dirt on one side, then across the stump, to where the wood or roots disappear again. This is where we start grinding to where we stop grinding.
We multiply the total inches by $1.50.
We do however have a minimum fee to cover fuel and travel time. If your total inches add up to less than 50", we still have to charge $75 inside Gwinnett and $95 outside Gwinnett.
We Grind Deeper for Cheaper!
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
A. We charge $1.50 Per Inch to grind your stump. You can get a very close estimate of the cost by measuring your stumps with a tape measure or yard stick.
Do not measure where the chainsaw cut the tree. Measure where we start grinding on one side to where we stop grinding on the other side.
If the stump is oval, measure the longest length. If there are roots that you want to remove, start at the farthest root out on one side to the farthest root out on the other side.
Stumps flare. Where the chainsaw cut the tree might be 20" but at ground level the stump can be 30".
30" X $1.50= $45.
We do have a minimum fee of $75 in Gwinnett and $95 outside Gwinnett.
The Minimum Fee covers up to 50" of stumps.
