FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Since personal and family photography and real-estate are newer areas for me to work in, I try to keep my rate at the low end of the request range. I figure that the person has chosen a price range that is consistent with the amount of photo work and product delivery that will be needed. For events with organizations that have budget for photography, I typically start at $150 for the first hour and $75 for each hour afterwards. The rate can also be influenced by the number of photos that I expect to take since editing time is of the rate.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I try to understand the purpose for their photos, where they have in mind to take the pictures and then make suggestions for lighting or location. If we get started and for some reason want to change course, then I will work with them to reschedule or make other adjustments.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am mostly self taught in photography but I have taken a few seminars and been a member of local photo clubs. I have also covered running and cycling events for the same organizations for over 10 years and worked with the local chapters of several national non-profits for the same time period. The logistics and timing necessary to meet the photographic needs of complex events have provided great experience for working with smaller groups and individuals to meet their needs.
