Did an excellent job on our door install project. Was on time, cleaned the area, very easy to work with.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Always ask how long they have been in business, what types of products will be used and how applied or installed, what is their rating with the Better Business Bureau and how long they have been doing what you are thinking about hiring them for.....alot of former new construction contractors and builders are now trying to do home repairs until the market recovers....they might be great at new construction but not so good at what they are bidding for you!

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Installation knowledge is key.....fortunately the internet is available to google whatever the task is so a homeowner can now get a better idea of the process. Knowing more about materials...like caulk, paint, siding & tile and specifying the best materials even if you have to buy them yourself. HandyANDY only uses the best materials and still hand-paints exteriors for not much more than what you'd pay someone to spray it!

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. timetable for completion, what's the biggest complaint your clients have (getting Andy on the phone), local references (for paint...check a job from 3 years ago not one they just did), labor source.....(where do you get your workers most everyone uses workers set up as subs even if they only work for one company...you don't want someone using day labor you won't be able to communicate with)..where do you buy your materials...and how do you pay for them (you don't want a lien slapped on your house when the contractor doesn't pay)
