About HandyANDY Home Renovations & All Repairs

hired 5 times on Thumbtack

Founded by a 4th-generation contractor and investor, HandyANDY specializes in all the small handyman type of repairs, pretty much anything you can think of, such as toilet repairs, light switches, changing light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, drywall repairs, siding, carpentry, rotted trim, roof repairs, and gutter cleaning. We are a virtual one-stop shop and can partner with you to maintain your home.

We hand-wash and hand-paint exteriors with premium products; just ask about our lifetime warranty program on exterior painting! If we can't do it, we can refer you to someone who can!

HandyANDY, where the founder can still be found holding a hammer or working a paint brush.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. We do everything from basic handyman to full scale remodels...the bulk of our work is exterior trim & siding repairs, roof leaks and general repairs. We focus on relationships and projects that take a day to a week to complete.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Always ask how long they have been in business, what types of products will be used and how applied or installed, what is their rating with the Better Business Bureau and how long they have been doing what you are thinking about hiring them for.....alot of former new construction contractors and builders are now trying to do home repairs until the market recovers....they might be great at new construction but not so good at what they are bidding for you!

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Installation knowledge is key.....fortunately the internet is available to google whatever the task is so a homeowner can now get a better idea of the process. Knowing more about materials...like caulk, paint, siding & tile and specifying the best materials even if you have to buy them yourself. HandyANDY only uses the best materials and still hand-paints exteriors for not much more than what you'd pay someone to spray it!

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. timetable for completion, what's the biggest complaint your clients have (getting Andy on the phone), local references (for paint...check a job from 3 years ago not one they just did), labor source.....(where do you get your workers most everyone uses workers set up as subs even if they only work for one company...you don't want someone using day labor you won't be able to communicate with)..where do you buy your materials...and how do you pay for them (you don't want a lien slapped on your house when the contractor doesn't pay)

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We're craftsmen making repairs the way our fathers and grandfathers did only with modern tools! Can't tell you how many times we come along and have to rework repairs made by others that were never done right. We're the only company left that hand washes exteriors before hand painting siding & trim. We don't use .99 cent caulk...only premium materials go into are jobs and we're still value priced with long term warranties.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. It's my passion....I love homes and our workers do too. We take a ton of pride in doing a job right the first time.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How'd you get stuck in the line of work? I love what I do and I was born to do it!

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. We're proud of everything that we do....or we redo it until we are.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I read voraciously and am always scouting online for new products or materials that will benefit our clients. The Journal of Light Construction and This Old House are favorites.
