Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: There are many piano teachers on Oahu, most of whom are very knowledgeable and credible. With my combined experience in performance and improvisation, I am definitely the choice for a more well-rounded, comprehensive approach to piano lessons. Many teachers are geared too much into just learning to read music; my goal for each student is to be able to create music both through reading and creating, as well as understanding the music that is around them. I love watching students progress and improve. Sometimes students are hard on themselves especially when the music becomes more and more difficult, but I always remind them about where they started from and where they are now. I can be a demanding teacher, but it's only because I want to challenge my students to be the best they can possibly be and to reach their fullest potential in this skill. However, part of my job is to also make sure each student understands that I genuinely care about them both as a growing musician and as a person.

Kainoa Fukumoto is a fine teacher. He is very approachable and provides a very comfortable environment in his lessons, yet pays close attention to fine detail of playing and offers keen insight to in his teaching! I would recommend his piano tuteledge to anyone serious about learning to play piano and/or wishing to improve.
Piano Lessons (for adults)

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I remember hearing a piano song when I was very young (probably around age two or three) and asking my parents if I could learn to do that. Of course, no one generally takes students that young, so I was extremely excited when I was finally old enough to take lessons (about five years old). I never imagined I'd get very far in music especially because many people commented that musicians don't make money. But through the years, I've learned that being a musician isn't always about the money; it's about the passion and loving this art-form. And that's part of what I hope to pass on to my students.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Playing the piano is incredibly rewarding. There's no other instrument as versatile and in demand as the piano. But learning to play it requires a lot of commitment to practicing. I meet with students once a week for a limited time, so the bulk of the learning really happens at home when they practice. If students maintain good weekly practice routines, they will get the most out of their lessons with me each week.
