Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. #1 thing- Make sure they are Licensed and properly schooled. Therapist that are not and do not know what they are doing can seriously hurt a person or just don't know what they are doing. There is important key knowledge that every schooled Licensed Therapist should know. #2- find out what types of modalities they know, what school they came from. See if its what YOU are looking for. Every person's needs and preferences are different, Its important to express to your therapist what YOU are looking for or need. If the therapist has a wider range of modality styles they would be able to provide various techniques and see what is good for YOU, rather than just one or two styles.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. Its about being thorough.. you give a great massage and do the best that you can in providing awesome service and hope that your client's condition improves from when they first walked in to when they leave.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. Being able to fix a problem. Therapeutic Massage is about making a difference to the body and for the person whether it'd be a small change or drastic one, it makes a difference and improves health and well-being.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. How long you've been doing massage. They are curious to know my credentials. I've been doing this for 3 years so far. I went to school in Kailua at Hawaii Healing Arts College where I graduated and got certified. After I received my state license I went to work under a LomiLomi therapist, who studied directly under well known healer Papa Kalua for many of years. She taught me lomilomi, clinical and therapeutic style. I added that to what I had already been taught through school to conform my style. I also followed up with more modality styles to learn became certified in those as well.
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. It is important to take care of yourself and our bodies. Most people will come only when something is wrong, sore, or trying to avoid surgery, but by that time you've waited too long. Its a prolonged time of build up that makes it become tight and sore. If people who get maintenance once or twice a month it wouldn't be sore but soothing, muscles and body tissue would be well trained and taken care of. When muscles and tissue get too tight they pull on bone, which leads to bigger problems down the road along with build up of metabolites, lactic acid, etc. As we get older the body doesn't heal as quickly so it is important to try to preserve and maintain your health as much as possible. Massage improves health, circulation, reduces stress and tension, and minimize build up and pain problems.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. I wanted to learn how to fix a problem. My parents have Back, neck, and spinal problems so I wanted to learn how to help it. It interested me how the body works and how muscle manipulation could improve body pain and other working factors.
