A. When considering having your wood/cedar shakes roof cleaned. Make sure the provider uses a non pressure soft wash process. Never allow a pressure washer near your roof!
The purpose of the cleaning is to keep the shakes breathing by removing all the algae, moss, mold, mildew and fungi. The design is for the shakes/shingles to protect the felt under them which is what protects your roof. Once the felt dry, cracks etc. repairs or replcement will be needed. A cleaning will not reverse such. The focus to maintaining your wood/cedar shakes is to be proactive.
