FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Weekly piano lessons for adults, teens, and kids. I also give composition and theory lessons to musicians.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
It's never too late to learn piano or music for that matter. Not only do I say this to help adult students feel more at ease, I have found it to be consistently true in teaching adults and teens who have little or no prior music background. My goal as a teacher is to make the learning process comfortable and enjoyable, yet effective. Learning the language of music is challenging however there are always several great approaches out there to make the challenge doable.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
It is a fallacy that adults either learn piano very slowly or cannot learn it at all. On the contrary, adults can and do learn piano very quickly due to their formal thinking skills; skills kids don't typically develop until their teen years. Adults also tend to have more self-discipline when it comes to daily practice which is a HUGE advantage. What seems challenging for adults is to learn piano without expectations and to view mistake-making as a beneficial part of the endeavor. Having these mindsets ironically speeds up the learning process, especially as it applies to piano and music in general. Many children naturally approach learning with this attitude and it is part of the reason they seem to progress so quickly on piano or anything else.
