Trained with Rick and it was the best thing I have done. Rick took the time to make sure you are performing all the moves correctly. Rick is very knowledgable about CKM and is will to make a connection with his students to better train you. Thank you Rick for showing me things that I can use not only to protect myself but to protect my family.

I've been training with Rick in Commando Krav Maga since July of 2010. He's been an excellent instructor and the courses he's taught have been very informative. The courses are well structured and his approach is very easy to follow along with. I am training as an amateur MMA fighter, and some of the lessons he's taught have carried over into my training, which goes to show the effectiveness of both his training and Commando Krav Maga. I would definitely have to recommend him to anyone looking to train in a real world form of self defense.

Question and answer

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. 1) Does the instructor teach a standard curriculum for practitioners to follow? Without structure the student may not get the training they pay for.

2) Does the instructor stay current with the material he teaches? "Evolution or Extinction" is one of our mottos. Instructors must be students themselves and always strive to be better teachers

3) Is the instructor certified? Don't be scammed by someone who just watches training DVDs at home and claims to be an instructor. Ask to see a certification. See if it expired 10 years ago.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Commando Krav Maga is different than traditional Krav Maga because it continuously evolves with modern day tactics. Not only that but it is also the fastest-growing reality based system in the world! Before I decided to choose CKM I did my research. This system is in over 40 different countries, including Japan. It has also made TV appearances on Discovery Channel's Human Weapon, History Channel's Weaponology, Celebrity Fit Club, and on the cover of Black Belt Magazine!

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I enjoy instiling confidence into people who once never had it before. Students leave my class with their head held high, knowing that they have the knowledge to defend themselves if they had to. They know this system really works. Even those who have spent hundreds of dollars in the past on traditional martial arts and never felt like they learned what they needed to know. There is high value in what I teach them.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. I always get asked the "What If" questions. What if the attacker has a gun to my back? What if there are 3 attackers with knives? What if the person is bigger and stronger than I am?....and we have answers to them. In fact, 1 of our 4 concepts are the "What Ifs" In an effective reality-based system you must find solutions to the what if questions. If not it could cost you your life!

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Ever since I joined the Marine Corps in 1997 my line of work has involved saving lives. I had a job as an Aircraft Rescue Firefighter. I also trained in krav maga back then. Once I got out in 2005 I worked as an EMT, then I worked in a pharmacy. Self defense and boxing has always been my passion however, and now I'm certified to teach both! All of these things have one thing in common: the safety and well-being of others.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Is any previous martial arts experience needed?
Not at all. Krav Maga is based on simplicity so it will work under pressure in a life or death situation. In fact, a lot of the techniques are based off of your natural reflexes, however they are lethal attacks to the eyes, throat, groin, etc. We focus more on the martial and less on the art.
