Introduction: Based out of Chicago, IL, I have 10+ years of music teaching experience and even more years performing and composing professionally. While my main instruments are drum set, marimba and guitar, I teach improvisation and composition on any/all instruments you want to learn. I believe that all living beings are born musical. My goal is to help people unlock their innate musical talents, with a focus on fluency and expressiveness. My passion is combining everything I have learned and creating something new in original music and improvisational contexts. I compose for and perform with a number of Chicago-based musicians and bands, including, Family Junket, Jazz Robots, Seres de Luz, and Berta Bigtoe. I have a BA in Music from Macalester College and studied music in Brazil on a Fulbright Scholarship. With ten years of experience teaching people of all ages in music schools and private lessons, I am excited to meet new students and help you reach your musical goals!

Jonah has been teaching my son guitar lessons for a few months. My 6-year old son really likes him and his lesson. He is very good at having the children engaged in music and keeping their interest on the instrument learning.

Jonah is an amazing teacher. I honestly did not expect to be playing so confidently with just a few lessons under my belt, but having the freedom to do so has made learning a new instrument incredibly enjoyable. Jonah also understands that the best way to learn is to start playing with others and has provided very affordable ways to do so. If I could rate him more than 5 stars I absolutely would!

When I set out to find a music instructor to help me with my guitar and drums skills, I can honestly say that I hit the jackpot when I selected Jonah! He’s very professional, yet highly personable. This combined with his incredible musical talent puts him in a category all his own! I know I made the best choice for me because he’s not only an excellent instructor, he’s able to easily shift his teaching to slower or more advanced depending on how complex a song may or may not be. He always encourages me to keep going until it feels right in my heart and in my head. With my psychological and intellectual deficiencies, he frequently checks in with me during a song and reminds me to pay attention to how my body feels, finding the center and to just remember to relax.
