Introduction: Greetings friends! I am delighted to meet you and hope we can work on some music together. If we do, I think you'll find my lessons not only empowering, but also fun and exciting, as the secrets of music are unlocked and the joy of making music is experienced! I can help you learn the basics or strengthen, refine, and build upon the skills you already have! My ongoing intention is to empower you to develop the capabilities needed to meet your musical goals and to create music that improves your quality of life and the lives of others, if you share it with them! Music theory is taught in an organic way, as needed and desired, along the path to creating the music you want. Lessons are customized to build on your strengths - both in terms of the music knowledge and skills you already have, and also in terms of your mental strengths and particular learning style. This makes the lesson most comfortable for you, efficient with our time, and effective at advancing your music abilities. My holistic and practical knowledge of music, gained through years of listening by ear and playing and improvising in live settings with groups of people, enables me to teach music in a way that clearly demonstrates the value of learning theory and gaining new skills. My approach is not simply an abstract way of teaching music theory and principles, for their own sake (although we can certainly do this if you'd like), but instead its a teaching approach that equips you to understand the direct usefulness, relevance and applicability of the knowledge and skills being taught. This pedagogy offers a sense of the beauty and awe of music, in all its simplicity and complexity, and helps one to see how all the different aspects of music fit together in an integrated and cohesive way. This then invites creativity, clarity and understanding, and inspires experimentation, improvisation, songwriting and a "hands-on" approach to learning how to play. My student-centered way of teaching, flexible and adaptable to your goals and interests, is likely to be especially appreciated by people who have been frustrated with traditional lesson styles and overly formalized curricula. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, and I'll be happy to discuss options and possibilities for working together!
